Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose my size?

Our Lucy and Loo Dresses and Bandeaus are available in 3 sizes.

Fitting is really easy for our dresses. 95% of our customers never try a dress before they buy.

To choose your size, simply shop your BRA size. Not the CUP size… the under-bust size. (ie. 10, 12, 14). As the straps literally tie around you, to create the top of the dress, it doesn’t matter what size bust you have… the top WILL fit you.

If you are a size 10 at the top but a size 14 in the bottom, you will still fit a SIZE ONE dress. Shop your top, not your bottom.

What if I am in between sizes?

If you are in between sizes, for example a size 12 and 14, we recommend that you go up a size. The smaller size will still fit you, but be a little more snug at the waist, whereas the larger size will sit gently. Keep in mind that when you style our convertible dresses, it will be wrapped around you at the waist or under the bust anyway, so the larger size won’t feel loose at all.

Don’t stress about the sizing too much, if need be, we can swap it for another dress size. Please see below for our return policy.

What is the difference between a Maxi Dress and a Ballgown?

Maxi Convertible Dress vs Ball Gown

The Maxi dresses are a half-circle skirt – whereas the Ball Gown, Mid Length and Cocktail Dresses are a made with a FULL CIRCLE SKIRT

There is almost twice the fabric in a Ball Gown vs the Maxi Dress.

This means that the Ball Gown has more of a formal look than the Maxi, but more importantly, the Ball Gown is more accommodating in the ‘booty area’.

We offer the Maxi style in a size One and a size Two only. In our experience fitting ladies of all different shapes and sizes, we have found that ladies who are a size 14 and over, or ladies who are pregnant, or self-conscious about their tummy, prefer the fall and flow of the Ball Gown to the Maxi Dress.

You CAN absolutely mix and match your bridal party with Maxi and Ball Gowns.

I'm really tall... Will the dress be long enough?

Our standard, full length dresses are 120cm (approx) from the waist to the floor. BUT! Keep in mind that even the length of our ‘Lucy and Loo’ gowns is convertible – depending on how you wear it!

A lady of average height can wear the dress high (under her bust) and wear flat shoes… OR pull the dress lower on her hips, tie a gorgeous low back style and wear super high heels. (These dresses certainly save money on alterations!)

For the super tall ladies, we offer the “Extra Long” Length Dress. These dresses are an additional 10cm longer than the standard dress. These dresses are an extra $20 on our normal retail price. (This is based on our normal retail prices and not valid with any other discount or sale price). If you require a specific measurement, please contact us for a quote.

Can I wear a bra?

To enjoy the low back styles of the dress, we recommend our customers wear a Nudi Bra by “Secret Weapons”. With a Nudi Bra, you will have great protection (ahem… from cold winds. You know what we mean) and achieve a rounded bust shape. If you tie the dress nice and tight, the dress will be very supportive for larger busts

You can wear a normal bra with our Convertible Dresses – depending on how you tie it. The easiest way to style the dress with a bra is by purchasing a matching “Bandeau” (Boobtube) to go under the dress. Cut from the very same fabric as your Lucy and Loo Convertible Dress, no one will know that it is even there. Click here to watch a video to find out more.

Custom Colours

If you can’t find that perfect shade in our 28 colours we may still be able to find the perfect colour for you in our Italian Fabric range.

‘Special order’ colours need to be imported directly from Italy in a minimum roll of 50m – therefore we have few terms and conditions:

Minimum order requirement of 4 Ball Gowns OR 5 Maxi/Cocktail Length Dresses applies  A ‘custom colour fee’ of $40 applies to each dress ordered.  The ‘Special Order Italian Range’ is not included in any sale, promotion or discount promoted by Lucy and Loo.  To import this fabric by sea a 3 month waiting period applies. This is at no additional cost to you. If the order is urgent, we can ship the fabric by air to arrive in Australia within 2 weeks. This is an additional $200 air freight charge. (Times are subject to fabric stock availability and air travel restrictions)  No refund or exchange on colour choice

If you would like to view our full Italian range, please contact us

I want to order for my bridal party, when should I do this?

If the fabric is here in Australia we can make to order in as little as 4 weeks. However it is best to have your order organised and paid for at least 8 weeks prior to your wedding. This will allow us time for manufacture and for you to receive the dresses at least 4 weeks out from the big day. If you need your order processed more quickly we can accommodate this, however please contact us to discuss what we can do for you.

For imported Italian fabrics that are not in stock, please see the terms listed above.

Please note that to ensure consistency between fabric batches, we recommend that you order all of your bridesmaid dresses at one time. If your bridesmaids are paying for their dresses individually, please let us know the brides name so we can keep your order together. We require full payment of all members to be made before manufacturing will begin. This will ensure all dresses are cut from the one fabric roll. If the orders are processed individually at different times, we can not guarantee the fabric consistency.

How long will my order take to arrive?

We do have some stock ready to go – so if there is a dress you need in a hurry, please contact us to ensure its availability before ordering.

Orders may be delayed over the Christmas and New Year’s period. We will notify you at the time you place your order if your dress will be longer than expected.
